While researching a topic for my end-of-month newsletter deadline, I came across these admonishing words from Kate Hepburn (and I can absolutely hear her gravelly-textured voice as I read these words): "If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting."
(For those of you too young to know who Katherine Hepburn is, she is the actress who threw convention out the window and wore slacks [as they were called] in a time when women did not wear slacks, and was generally known for unconventional behaviour; she is the actress who still holds the most Academy Awards ... and she supported herself as she was single most of her life.)
Couldn’t have said it better myself. From a career practitioner’s point of view, it works as follows:
enjoyable work = enthusiasm, ideas, results = achievements
= career growth = success
The definition of success is yours to define.
